About Michael Pendergast: Law Clerk

Mike is a life long Vallejo resident. He is the youngest of William and Denise Pendergast’s two sons. His
parents are lifelong community, business, and education advocates for the Vallejo community. The
Pendergast family has owned and operated several successful businesses in Vallejo, including Bill
Pendergast and Sons Chevron, Bill Pendergast Auto Center, Reeves and Pendergast Construction,
and the Law Office of William Pendergast III, which is a full service law office owned and operated by
Mike’s older brother William.

Mike’s life story is fully documented in two published articles that have been attached to the In The News
section of this website. One is a story of Redemption authored by Peter Hartlaub of the San Francisco
Chronicle which ran in May of 2005, and the other is a local article authored by Vallejo Times Herald
writer Rachel Raskin-Zrihen highlighting Mike’s redemptive efforts as a volunteer coach for his high
school alma mater, Vallejo High.

What makes these articles interesting, as well as Mike’s employment with Morton & Russo even more unique and valuable are the life experiences he brought to Morton & Russo having spent over a decade of his life incarcerated in State Prison as a “Lifer.” Mike’s upbringing around family businesses, as well as his personal insight, experiences, and struggles within the criminal justice system have been a tremendous asset to our firm. Not only do we rely on his first hand knowledge of some of the trauma, fear, and uncertainty families face when someone is charged with a crime, but he has become a proven asset at trial not just as an extra set of eyes and ears, but also a thorough note taker with a personal interest directly derived from a defendant’s perspective.

Beyond Mike’s employment with Morton & Russo he is a volunteer Coach for both Football and Baseball at Vallejo High. A past member of the Vallejo Executive Lions Club. Participated in, and completed multiple self help programs while incarcerated, including being one of the founding members of the Prisoner Outreach Program at California State Prison Solano devoted to deterring youth from the poor choices which lead to incarceration. Mike has also given presentations about his life’s experiences to numerous groups, including the California Department of Corrections Little Hoover Commission in 2003, church youth, juvenile hall wards, and students studying criminal justice at California State University Sacramento.

Mike has been employed with Morton & Russo for six years.
